Lanier, Roaf To Announce Second Round Picks

In a new twist to the NFL Draft, the league announced they will have retired stars announce the picks for the entire second round.  Among those invited are two former Chiefs, one making the selection for Kansas City, the other for the New Orleans Saints.

Willie Lanier – Kansas City Chiefs
Willie Roaf – New Orleans Saints

Some familiar names will carry the card for the reset of the AFC West as well:

Shannon Sharpe – Denver Broncos
Willie Brown – Oakland Raiders
Natrone Means – San Diego Chargers

Considering the ongoing lockout and the battles over benefits for retired players, I’m surprised that the NFL was able to get big names to show up for most every team.  I’m glad this is happening, because it’s very cool, just surprised this year of all is the one they kick off the tradition.  With that being said…

Lanier is a great man that we should all consider lucky to have associated with the Chiefs.  Last Summer he took home the Lamar Hunt Award and is the perfect player to represent Hunt’s franchise.

Anyone want to take bets on how long it take Sharpe to make the Broncos selection?  There is no way he walks up to the podium and simply reads the pick.  He’ll find something to go off on before letting us all know who Denver will be selecting.

Barry Sanders (Detroit), Franco Harris (Pittsburgh), Marshall Faulk (St. Louis), Aeneas Williams (Arizona), Jessie Tuggle (Atlanta), Peter Boulware (Baltimore), Andre Reed (Buffalo), Brad Hoover (Carolina), Richard Dent (Chicago), Anthony Munoz (Cincinnati), Paul Warfield (Cleveland), Charles Haley (Dallas), Shannon Sharpe (Denver), Jim Taylor (Green Bay), Aaron Glenn (Houston), Jeff Herrod (Indianapolis), Donovin Darius (Jacksonville), Willie Lanier (Kanas City), Sam Madison (Miami), Chris Doleman (Minnesota), Andre Tippett (New England), Willie Roaf (New Orleans), Joe Morris (Giants), Marty Lyons (Jets), Willie Brown (Oakland), Troy Vincent (Philadelphia), Natrone Means (San Diego), Dwight Clark (San Francisco), Cortez Kennedy (Seattle), John Lynch (Tampa Bay), Jevon Kearse (Tennessee) and Doug Williams (Washington).
